Following the success of universal health coverage, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is set to launch the free life insurance program up to Rs one million for citizens of the province. The initiative is among the seven flagship projects approved by the PTI government.
A press release said that about 49% of the population in this province lives below the poverty level where a death of an income earner usually leads to heavy financial strain on other family members. Regarding these facts, provincial government has planned financial aid for grieving families.
Under the proposed program, families who lost their loved ones would receive Rs 500,000 for those above 60 years of age and up to Rs 1,000,000 for those below 60 years of age. To ensure that this health and life insurance scheme is sustainable, the provincial government also plans to set up its own Islamic Takaful insurance company.
Meanwhile, to give impetus to international trade, the construction of 365-kilometer Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway has also been given a green flag that connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab and Balochistan crossing through 12 districts.
In addition to that, a 120-kilometer 220 kV transmission line from Swat to Chakdara was approved by the provincial government. It will provide electricity to local industries at competitive rates generated by the hydropower plants installed in the province and other areas surrounding it, and an amount of Rs 54 billion is expected to be earned annually as revenue for the province.
