SARGODHA: The man accused of brutally murdering his wife and five children in Sargodha, Yasin Malah, has reportedly met his end in an alleged encounter with police.
According to media reports, the accused was being handcuffed and transported to recover his mobile phone and the knife used in the gruesome crime when a motorcycle-riding group of his associates attacked the police party and facilitated his escape.
During the ensuing exchange of gunfire, police claim that Malah was accidentally shot and killed by his own accomplices. The arrested assailant had been on physical remand with the police, and it was during the investigation that he disclosed the locations of the mobile phone and knife, leading to his attempted recovery.
Authorities have confirmed that the search for Malah’s fugitive companions is ongoing, while his body has been transferred to the hospital for autopsy.
Initially, Malah had confessed to the horrific killings, asserting that he murdered his wife, daughter, and four sons under the guise of honor. Following the incident, he attempted to take his own life but was unsuccessful; he was subsequently hospitalized in stable condition.
The confession was corroborated by Rashid, the individual who had called the emergency services, revealing that Malah had contacted him after the killings, stating his intentions to commit suicide following the tragedy.
Early investigations suggest that the motive behind these heinous acts stemmed from Malah’s belief that his wife and daughter were involved in some sort of illicit relations with a man named Ghulam Mustafa.
