Renowned playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was abducted and held for ransom, according to police sources. It was confirmed by the police that Qamar was kidnapped by a gang several days ago.
During his captivity, the kidnappers reportedly subjected Qamar to physical abuse and demanded a substantial amount of money as ransom before eventually releasing him.
Sources disclosed that Qamar notified the police about his ordeal through a senior police officer. The Organized Crime Unit in Lahore has initiated efforts to track down the gang responsible for the kidnapping.
However, sources also indicated that Qamar is reluctant to pursue legal action against his abductors. Police are currently urging Qamar to file a formal complaint and assist in the ongoing investigation.
It is not clear how much ransom the artist paid for his release or how he paid it. Qamar also remains in the limelight for his controversial comments about women and liberal people.
