SRINAGAR: Kashmiri resistance leader and former chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away on Wednesday in Srinagar after a prolonged illness.
Taking to Twitter, top Kashmiri politician Mehbooba Mufti extended condolences over the demise of Syed Ali Geelani. “Saddened by the news of Geelani sahab’s passing away,” she wrote on her official Twitter handle.
“We may not have agreed on most things but I respect him for his steadfastness & standing by his beliefs. May Allah Ta’aala grant him jannat & condolences to his family & well wishers,” Mufti tweeted.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the veteran Kashmiri leader was 92. “Geelani had been under house arrest for many years, the media service reported.
Born on September 29, 1929 in Sopore, Geelani has served as chairman of Hurriyat for many years and was known as a hardline resistance leader who headed Hurriyat (G) group.
