A gun attack on a police checkpost in Karak has resulted in the martyrdom of three police officers, as stated by the police on Thursday.
According to a police statement, the assault claimed the lives of three people in Karak district’s Bahadur Khel area during the early hours of the day when militants opened fire on a police post with heavy weapons, as confirmed by law enforcement sources.
During the attack, a prolonged exchange of gunfire took place, after which the terrorists fled when emergency responders and police reinforcements reached the scene, as soon as they were informed about the attack.
The rescue workers transferred the bodies of the slain officers and the injured to the district headquarters hospital. To review the situation, provincial police chief Zulfiqar Hamid visited the area, issuing directives for a security operation in response to the attack.
As reported by the media, no group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but in recent months, there has been a surge in militant violence, with officers and soldiers of the military and police being targeted.
