KARACHI: The recently launched electric buses in Karachi have doubled their fares without any prior announcement, leaving passengers furious.
The original fare for the electric buses was Rs. 50, but on Friday, passengers were charged Rs. 100 for the same route from Malir Cantt to Sea View Karachi.
Passengers expressed their anger towards the fare increase, resulting in heated arguments with the bus conductors. Witnesses reported that such scenes could be witnessed all along the route.
To make matters worse, the conductors provided passengers with tickets for the Red colored people’s bus service, which was not even the electric bus service they were using.
Many passengers have reached out to officials whose phone numbers are displayed on a note in every bus, but they have not received any satisfactory response.
The sudden fare hike has caused widespread dissatisfaction among the public, who have demanded an explanation from the relevant authorities. The lack of communication from the transport department has only added to the frustration of passengers who rely on public transportation to travel across the city.
New Route Introduced:
Meanwhile, Sindh government on Friday launched the second route of the electric bus service in Karachi under its Peoples Bus Service programme.
The new route No 2 of the EV bus service will start from Baharia Town and end at Malir Halt via M9 Toll Plaza, Baqai University, Jinnah Avenue, Malir Cantt, Tank Chowk, Model Colony.
Initially, 13 electric buses will run on this route.
