Several areas of Karachi likely to face disruption in water supply after a power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) warned on Sunday.
The Dhabeji facility, the city’s main water intake station, relies heavily on a continuous power supply, and even short outages can affect water transmission.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, the power failure occurred at 8:45am in the third phase of the Dhabeji Pumping Station after K-Electric reported a cable fault. A technical team was sent to the site to repair the issue.
The spokesperson said three pumps were temporarily shut down due to the fault, causing an estimated reduction of 75 million gallons per day in Karachi’s water supply.
Areas likely to be affected include parts of North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, and Scheme 33.
KWSC said it was coordinating with K-Electric for the early restoration of power. The corporation added that all pumps would be restarted once electricity was fully restored to normalise water supply.
Earlier, a power outage at the K-2 Pumping Station had also disrupted operations, affecting three major pumps. Meanwhile, the Sindh cabinet recently approved a 40 per cent increase in the cost of a dedicated water line project to supply water to DHA from Dumlotee.
