KARACHI: Water supply to Karachi has resumed after K-Electric restored power at the Dhabeji pumping station following a 22-hour outage caused by a cable fault, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) said on Monday.
According to a Water Corporation spokesperson, the power outage at the Dhabeji pumping station occurred due to a K-Electric cable fault at 8:43 am yesterday.
The fault had affected three pumps at the third phase of the city’s main water intake station, leading to disruption in water transmission to several parts of the metropolis.
K-Electric restored power to the Dhabeji pumping station at 7:20 am today after 22 hours of repair work, the spokesperson said.
Following the restoration of power, water supply to the affected areas has been resumed in phases.
The Water Corporation said the city faced a shortage of about 48 million gallons of water due to the prolonged power outage.
Water supply remained affected in some areas of North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi and Scheme 33 due to the power failure, the spokesperson added.
Earlier on Sunday, KWSC had warned that several areas of the city would face disruption in water supply after the breakdown at Dhabeji. The corporation had estimated a reduction of 75 million gallons per day (MGD) in supply.
The Water Corporation said it was coordinating with K-Electric for early restoration and all pumps would be restarted to normalise supply after power restoration.
