The business community in Karachi has announced full support for the government’s potential smart lockdown measures and changes in business hours.
Trader representatives said they are ready to close shopping malls and markets by 8:30pm in view of energy conservation and the ongoing fuel crisis.
Chairman of Sindh Tajir Ittehad, Sheikh Habib, stated that the government’s measures are in the national interest and necessary to tackle the energy crisis. He added that if the federal or Sindh government decides to close businesses at 8pm, the trader community will fully cooperate.
President of the All Saddar Alliance of Market and Mall Association, Faheem Noori, also said that markets and shopping malls in Karachi are prepared to close at designated times and that traders stand with the government in supporting the country.
Trader leaders urged the public to complete their shopping within designated hours until the fuel crisis subsides, in order to help conserve energy and fuel.
They emphasised that national interest must take precedence over personal or political differences, and that the business community will extend full cooperation to support the economy.
They collectively maintained that saving fuel and electricity is essential to stabilise the economy. During this difficult period, the trader community stands with the government and is ready to fulfil its national responsibility.
This announcement comes as the Sindh Government considers implementing a smart lockdown to reduce unnecessary movement and conserve fuel amid the energy crisis.
