Karachi Central District Police have solved what they described as the biggest robbery case of the year, arresting the alleged mastermind and recovering Rs2 billion (Rs200 crore) out of the Rs3 billion (Rs300 crore) looted during the heist.
According to reports, the robbery took place a few days ago in the Joharabad area, where a gang allegedly stole Rs3 billion from a cash van transporting money for a bank.
Police initially arrested three suspects, and during interrogation, identified the alleged mastermind as Muhammad Ali, also known as “Langra.” Authorities later arrested him and recovered a major portion of the stolen cash.
Police also recovered a Toyota Vigo pickup truck and a Pixis car allegedly used in the robbery. The incident occurred on June 12, 2026, within the jurisdiction of Joharabad Police Station.
A special investigation team was formed by DIG West Zone Irfan Baloch under the supervision of SSP Central Dr Muhammad Imran Khan. Investigators found that Wajid, a chief crew member of the security company’s cash van, was allegedly involved in the robbery.
According to police, Muhammad Ali planned the robbery and hid the stolen money at two separate residences. Investigators say the gang consists of more than a dozen members and has been involved in numerous bank robberies across major cities, including Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Multan.
Police said the arrested suspect is originally from Swat and has a history of involvement in bank robberies and other major theft cases.
Authorities added that several accomplices, believed to be from Parachinar in Kurram district, remain at large with the remaining stolen money.
