Daal Chawal is a common food item available across Karachi. The daal is typically served with rice and pickles together on a plate. However, there is one place that has changed to make it more interesting – serving daal chawal in a Thali – a round silver platter used to serve food.
The manager of the restaurant tells us he came up with the idea simply because he wanted to try something unique. “We used the idea of serving daal in a thali simply because we wanted to try something new,” he said, and eventually came up with serving in the special utensil.
The owner of 52 Foods has been in the food business for over five decades but the restaurant near Dolmen Mall in Hyderi has been operating for over twelve years.
Another interesting thing about their dish is that they don’t simply provide daal chawal but also add ten other items including chicken kebab, chicken sticks, cholay (chickpeas), pickles, onions and papri and even butter. Yes, that’s the special platter which you can try for a scrumptious meal.
The manager said he considered serving papad but the cost was getting too high so he picked papri, which was a ‘winning combination’ and now their food is famous and people come from all across the city.
Another interesting thing is that they provide free refills of daal or rice if you run out during your meal. The price of a special platter is Rs180 while the kebab platter is for Rs150. The place is gaining popularity among local residents who throng to the area to try a delicious meal of daal chawal.
