Chaos erupted during the launch of a shopping center in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar district on Friday, as announcements of low-priced offers sparked unrest and damage.
Stick-wielding individuals stormed the venue after management decided to seal the doors due to the overwhelming number of attendees. The situation quickly escalated, causing significant disruption at the inaugural event.
The crowd became enraged when the shopping center’s management closed the mart, despite advertising exceptional deals for the launch.
Amid the chaos, police presence was notably absent, although the management eventually requested reinforcements.
SSP East Farukh Raza said that after the mart closed, some “troublemakers” attempted to throw stones. He noted that the police managed to regain control of the situation despite not receiving prior notice from the mall’s management.
