The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), with assistance from Pakistan’s security institutions, has arrested an alleged major hacker during an operation in Karachi.

According to local media reports, the suspect is accused of hacking bank accounts, credit card details and other sensitive financial information belonging to more than 5 million foreign citizens.

Investigators allege that the stolen data was being used for large-scale financial fraud and was intended to be sold on the dark web.

Reports said important evidence has been recovered from the suspect’s possession, while further investigation is underway.

Officials said the operation was initiated after foreign agencies and Pakistan’s security institutions detected signs of a large-scale international data breach.

Investigators allege the suspect had been targeting international financial institutions and foreign individuals through sophisticated cyberattacks, causing losses worth millions of dollars.
