KARACHI: A citizen in the financial capital of Pakistan has been receiving extortion threats from Muttahida Qaumi Movement London’s (MQM-L) activists.
According to sources, the alleged extortionists of MQM-L, Malik alias Mani and Adnan Qureshi alias Bablu demanded extortion from a citizen, Afzal Khan, a resident of Mahmoodabad area.
Sources informed that the man Afzal Khan runs Sky Internet cable business in the area while the extremists threatened him dire consequent for not paying extortion. According to Afzal Khan, the victim was demanded Rs 100, 000 extortion nine months ago on which he paid Rs. 50,000.
Afzal Khan said after the incident, he contacted the Baloch Colony police station several times but he could not get any help. Afzal Khan has also filed a complaint to SSP East for protection. Afzal Khan appealed to the higher authorities to take action against the culprits and provide justice to him.
On the other hand, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Monday announced the arrest of four members of a notorious extortion gang from the city’s Manghopir area
The SIU said in a statement that the arrested outlaws included Abdul Rauf Sasoli alias Commando, Fazlur Rehman, Abdul Ghafoor and Ghulam Abbas, .
The gang was demanding protection money from the traders and residents in Faqeer Mohammad Goth of Karachi, the SIU stated. “The accused had recently extorted 7, 00000 rupees amount as protection money from a trader”.
The gang had demanded 24 million rupees from the traders and residents of the area. The police have filed a case against the arrested men under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Manghopir police station.
