Telugu actor Allu Arjun was arrested in connection with a stampede during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre, Hyderabad, on December 4.
According to a report by Indian Express on Friday, the incident claimed the life of 39-year-old M Revathi and left her son critically injured. On Friday, the actor was taken into custody from his Hyderabad residence and escorted to the Chikkadapalli police station.
A video of the arrest has surfaced online, showing the National Award-winning actor leaving his residence and heading towards the police vehicle. His father, Allu Aravind, brother, Allu Sirish, and wife, Sneha Reddy, were present during the arrest.
Before getting into the car, Allu Arjun was seen sipping coffee and sharing a light moment with his wife, who smiled at his words. He also interacted briefly with the police before kissing his wife goodbye and stepping into the car, smiling as he did so.
According to a police official, the actor did not resist the arrest but expressed dissatisfaction over the police entering his bedroom without prior notice. He also mentioned that he was not given time to change or finish his breakfast before being taken into custody.
Following the stampede, Hyderabad Police’s Deputy Commissioner of the Central Zone, Akshansh Yadav, stated to The Indian Express that an FIR was registered at Chikkadapalli police station.
The charges include sections under BNS 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt). The case was filed based on a complaint by the deceased victim’s family. Yadav assured that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible for the tragic incident inside the theatre.
