K-Electric (KE) has made significant progress in its renewable energy initiatives by submitting the Bid Evaluation Report for its 150 MW solar projects at Winder and Bela, Balochistan, to NEPRA. Following this submission, KE has also concluded hearings on the subject with NEPRA.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Thursday, this marks a critical step towards finalizing the solar projects, reflecting KE’s commitment to transforming Pakistan’s energy landscape. Earlier this year, NEPRA gave its approval to proceed. KE has successfully initiated the industry’s first competitive bidding process for renewable energy projects.
The report highlights that the 150 MW Winder and Bela projects are part of a cumulative 640 MW renewable energy target within the first tranche of KE’s long-term goal to integrate 1,300 MW of sustainable energy into its generation mix. This milestone is a key part of KE’s broader renewable energy roadmap, which aims to achieve 30% renewable energy in its generation portfolio by 2030.
Over the past year, KE has attracted significant investor interest in its renewable energy initiatives. This includes 15 bids for the Winder and Bela projects and seven bids for its pioneering 220 MW hybrid solar-wind project in Dhabeji, Sindh. Setting a new benchmark in Pakistan’s renewable energy sector, KE has received highly competitive tariff bids for the 100 MW Bela and 50 MW Winder projects, as well as the 220 MW hybrid solar-wind project.
Additionally, KE has completed the process for its 270 MW Sindh Solar Projects and submitted the Auction Evaluation Report for these as well. Together, these projects underscore KE’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix, reducing reliance on imported fuels, and fostering investor confidence.
