LAHORE: Supreme Court on Wednesday heard a petition filed by Justice Qazi Faez Isa in which he has declared that the presidential reference against him is based on illegal intent.
The hearing was conducted by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Gulzar Ahmed. During the hearing, Justice Qazi Faez Isa requested the court to allow his wife to present her stance in the court via video link as his wife is not willing to tell anything to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Defence lawyer Farogh Naseem told the court that Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi respect the supremacy of court. The government side has no objection over forwarding this matter to FBR, he added.
Farogh Naseem maintained that as per the prime minister if his property was found in London, it should be seized and the money should be put in the national treasury. To which, Justice Maqbool Baqir remarked that the court did not review the reply. He remarked that the judge has not said that the property belongs to the PM.
Meanwhile, Justice Qazi Faez recorded his arguments, “If I say something wrong, file a defamation suit against me. All this started at the end of May. I was not provided with a copy of the reference,” he added.
Meanwhile, Justice Yahya Afridi said it was not appropriate to stop the government lawyer and give someone a chance. Justice Qazi Faiz Issa said that the government agreed with the court’s proposal, I have to respond to it, the court should give my wife a chance to take a stand through video link.
