A powerful explosion rocked a mosque in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during Friday prayers, leaving Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) district chief Abdullah Nadeem and three others injured, police confirmed.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Asif Bahader, the blast occurred at 1:45 pm at Maulana Abdul Aziz Mosque on Azam Warsak Bypass Road. Authorities determined that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted in the mosque’s pulpit.
“In the explosion, Abdullah Nadeem, the district chief of JUI, sustained serious injuries,” Bahader said. “Three others, also affiliated with the JUI, suffered minor wounds.”
Police identified the injured as Rehmanullah, Mullah Noor, and Shah Behran. All victims were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Law enforcement officials swiftly responded to the scene, securing the area and initiating an investigation. “Police teams are collecting evidence, and further inquiries are underway,” Bahader added.
Mosques, especially during Friday prayers when congregations are at their peak, have been frequent targets of attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the past.
