KARACHI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Gul Rafique Hassanzai on Thursday was shot and critically injured in SITE area of Karachi.
JUI-F Sindh President Rashid Mehmood Soomro confirmed the attack and said that Hassazai suffered two bullets in the head and was shifted to Civil Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Soomro strongly condemned the attack and demanded that the perpetrators should be arrested within three days. He said that JUI-F will announce the next course of action if the attackers are not apprehended.
He warned that the party’s decision to remain peaceful should be considered a weakness. He added that the provincial government will be held responsible if anything happens to the party leader.
JUI-F spokesperson Qari Muhammad Usman said that Maulana Gul Rafique was on his way home when unidentified armed men opened fire on him in Haroonabad area. Police have registered a case and launched investigations into the incident.
