SINDH: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) awarded degrees to 535 graduates in medicine and allied health fields. Fifteen gold medals were awarded to high achieving graduates in medicine, pharmacy, public health, and business and healthcare management, in its third annual convocation.
Governor Sindh and Chancellor Imran Ismail presided over the Convocation. On this occasion, Governor Imran Ismail congratulated the graduates and asked them to play the leading role in alleviating the healthcare status in the province of Sindh.
He also assured the University of allowing no disruption to the academic activities as the teaching hospitals Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, National Institute of Child Health and NICVD are transferred to the federal government.
The Vice-Chancellor JSMU Professor S.M. Tariq Rafi appealed to the graduates to consider their medical and allied health professions degrees as a sacred trust and choose to help ailing humanity in deprived and remote areas of the province.
He used the occasion to draw attention to the situation created by the delayed transfer of the University’s teaching hospitals JPMC, NICVD and NICH to the federal government.
He reminded the Chancellor that these hospitals have remained Sindh Medical College’s teaching hospitals for 46 years despite being in the federal government’s control for most of this period.
He also announced conferring an honorary doctorate on Sardar Yasin Malik for his philanthropic contribution to the University and the education sector.
