Jordan Peterson prefers Twitter ban than deleting Elliot Page tweet

Jordan Peterson has had his account suspended for his alleged violation of Twitter’s hateful conduct policy, but the controversial author and clinical psychologist refused to delete the tweet about Hollywood star Elliot Page, saying he would “rather die” than delete the ‘offending’ tweet.

Because of a tweet he made earlier in the week that used transgender actor Elliot Page’s former name and implied that he had his “breasts removed by a criminal physician,” the controversial author, clinical psychologist, and professor emeritus at the University of Toronto lost access to most of the Twitter account features on June 28.

The tweet was in response to a New York Post article that was shared on Twitter and in which Page expressed pride at the introduction of a Trans character on the Netflix series Umbrella Academy.

“I penned an irritated tweet in response to one of the latest happenings on the increasingly heated culture war front,” Peterson said to the National Post.

Peterson said he would “rather die” than delete the offending tweet, so the temporary suspension may as well have been a ban in his eyes.

“There are no rules on Twitter except don’t do what we don’t like today,” he said. “They are always applied post hoc by algorithms and idiots bent on maintaining their woke superiority.”

Mikhaila Peterson, his daughter, posted screenshots of the Twitter message informing her father that his account had been restricted.

Wow. @jordanbpeterson got a twitter strike. No more twitter until he deletes the tweet. Definitely not a free speech platform at the moment @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/YuBTwnjz5W

According to the screenshots, the website determined that Peterson’s account had broken Twitter’s rules, particularly those prohibiting hate speech.

Twitter’s hateful conduct policy states that users may not “promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.”
