Described by Netflix as a gripping Nordic noir thriller, “Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole” has debuted to widespread critical acclaim, earning a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series is an adaptation of Nesbø’s fifth novel in the Harry Hole series, The Devil’s Star. Unlike the widely panned 2017 film The Snowman, this adaptation was written by Jo Nesbø himself, who also serves as the showrunner.
Set in a “Gotham-like” version of Oslo during a heatwave, the story follows the brilliant but self-destructive detective Harry Hole. He must hunt a serial killer leaving behind ritualistic murder scenes and pentagram-shaped gemstones, all while navigating a lethal cat-and-mouse game with his corrupt colleague, Tom Waaler.
The first season consists of 9 episodes, ranging from 43 to 62 minutes each.

Is it worth watching?
Jo Nesbø is undoubtedly Norway’s biggest author and Netflix’s adaptation of a book is well shot, however, it is also completely absurd to say the least. That said, if you love gritty, atmospheric noir, having Jo Nesbø as the showrunner, then it’s definitely worth watching.
