The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has finalized the nominations for the appointment of Chief Justices of four High Courts: Peshawar, Balochistan, Sindh, and Islamabad.
In separate sessions held on Tuesday at the Supreme Court, the JCP, by majority vote, approved the elevation of the following acting Chief Justices to permanent positions: Mr. Justice S.M. Attique Shah as Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, Mr. Justice Rozi Khan Barrech as Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, Mr. Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar as Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, and Mr. Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar as Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court.
During the proceedings, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Supreme Court raised an objection, asserting that the issue concerning the 26th Constitutional Amendment ought to be resolved prior to proceeding with the appointments.
Justice Munib Akhtar supported this position, which was also endorsed by two members representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Law Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Commission underscored that the nominations were made through a transparent and constitutionally grounded process, taking into account the seniority, professional performance, and constitutional eligibility of the nominees.
