JAAC leaders audio leak, AJK, Rawalakot

ISALAMABAD: A purported audio leak involving leaders of the outlawed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has sparked serious allegations regarding planned unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), particularly in Rawalakot.

The alleged audio conversation, shared by Minister of State Talal Chaudhry on social media, features voices said to be of JAAC leaders Shaukat Nawaz Mir and Khawaja Mehran. The leaked call has raised concerns over alleged discussions of orchestrating violence and destabilising the region.

In the audio, the speakers are reportedly heard discussing plans linked to Rawalakot, suggesting that unrest or violent incidents there were considered necessary before broader actions could take place in other cities, including Muzaffarabad and Mirpur. The conversation includes references to assessing the deployment of security personnel in Rawalakot before moving forward with any plan.

Shaukat Nawaz Mir is allegedly heard stating that operational decisions would depend on the situation and security presence in Rawalakot, while Khawaja Mehran can be heard referring to the role of law enforcement in maintaining order in the area. Mir is also heard reiterating that without escalation in Rawalakot, further steps in other regions would not be possible.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, sharing the audio clip online, described the matter as a serious national security concern. He said that there was already substantial evidence regarding the banned organisation, and the alleged phone call further reinforced concerns about its intent.

He added that a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation would be carried out on an urgent basis by relevant authorities. Chaudhry further claimed that the audio indicated the group’s alleged objective of achieving its aims through violent means.

Authorities have not independently verified the authenticity of the audio at this stage, while investigations are expected to proceed into the matter.
