The Italian Navy’s contingent has arrived in Karachi this week for a three-day visit to enhance regional maritime security and defense cooperation between the two countries, the navy confirmed.
The visit marks the first ever by an Italian aircraft carrier to Pakistan.
As per details, Pakistan Navy’s senior officials and Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Marilina Armellin welcomed the vesting Italian fleet comprising aircraft carrier Cavour and Alpino frigate.
“The Italian Navy Carrier Strike Group comprising Aircraft Carrier Cavour and frigate Alpino arrived in Karachi on a three-day visit followed by a bilateral exercise,” the Pakistan Navy said in a statement on Monday.
Rear Admiral Abdul Munib, the commander of the Pakistan Fleet, was visited by a group headed by Armellin and Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri to talk about “matters of mutual interest including interoperability and avenues for future collaboration,” according to the Pakistan Navy.
Held on board the destroyer Alpino, the Defense Industries Exhibition also featured the capabilities of the Italian defense industry.
For the purpose of enhancing mutual interoperability between the two forces, the Italian Navy ship Morosini made a bilateral exercise visit to Karachi in September.
