ISLAMABAD: The capital’s unannounced lockdown during the arrival of foreign delegations has not only disrupted civic life but also exposed strains within the security apparatus as Head Constable Naveed Iqbal was dismissed from service after being found resting in his car during a Very Very Important Person (VVIP) movement, officials confirmed.

According to police sources, SSP Investigation ordered the dismissal after Iqbal, who was posted on duty along the sensitive route from Faizabad to Dhok Kala Khan, was discovered neglecting his assignment. Authorities termed the lapse “unacceptable” given the extraordinary security measures in place across Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The disciplinary action comes as the twin cities remain gripped by roadblocks, transport suspensions, and shortages of fuel and essential commodities, creating hardships for citizens and compounding the burden on police and security personnel.

Officials acknowledged that the sweeping measures—implemented without formal notification—have left commuters stranded and officers stretched across multiple checkpoints, with fatigue and confusion mounting on both sides.

Together, the dismissal and the continuing restrictions underscore the tense atmosphere in the capital, where ordinary residents and frontline personnel alike are bearing the brunt of extraordinary arrangements tied to foreign delegations’ movements.
