TEHRAN/JERUSALEM: Iran launched its 37th wave of missile strikes early Wednesday as part of Operation True Promise 4, intensifying its confrontation with Israel. The barrage began at dawn local time in Iran, aligning with reports around 7 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time.
Military officials as well as some media outlets confirmed the use of Khorramshahr ballistic missiles, known for their capacity to carry payloads of up to one ton. Some accounts suggested that Iran deployed multi-warhead or cluster-type munitions, designed to disperse explosives mid-air and complicate interception by Israel’s layered defense systems — including the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow. In addition to missiles, drones were launched for strategic strikes, signaling Tehran’s intent to overwhelm Israeli defenses with combined platforms.
The war erupted in late February 2026, when Iran initiated Operation True Promise following US-Israeli strikes, which claimed lives of several prominent Iranian leaders including Ayotollah Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has carried out successive waves of missile and drone attacks, targeting Israeli military bases, energy facilities, and urban centers.
Early waves struck near Tel Aviv, Haifa, and southern Israel, prompting mass mobilization of Israel’s air defenses and retaliatory strikes on Iranian assets across the region.
Israel claims most incoming projectiles have been intercepted, but several waves have penetrated defenses, causing damage to infrastructure and civilian areas. The escalating exchanges have drawn international concern, with global powers warning of the risk of a wider regional war.
