Iran detained several intelligence and military officials as part of the investigation into the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
According to media reports, military sources disclosed that both intelligence and military personnel, along with employees of Haniyeh’s guesthouse, were taken into custody in connection with the investigation.
US media outlets reported that Haniyeh’s assassination in Tehran has raised significant concerns about Iran’s security, prompting a special intelligence team from the Revolutionary Guard to lead the investigation.
Ismail Haniyeh was killed on July 31 while attending the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran.
Haniyeh’s death is seen as a significant blow to the Palestinian freedom movement, and Iran has vowed to seek retribution for his killing.
Meanwhile, Israel has not claimed responsibility for Haniyeh’s death.
Earlier reports from international media suggested that Haniyeh was killed in a missile attack, with Israel allegedly obtaining information about his location through spyware on WhatsApp. It was later revealed that a bomb had been planted in Haniyeh’s room beforehand, and that Israel had installed the bomb with the help of Iranian agents, with Iran reportedly in possession of photographs of these agents.
