ISLAMABAD: International Day of Special Persons is being observed all over the world including Pakistan today while 1 out of every 10 people in the world suffers from some form of disability that needs the special attention of friends and relatives.
Around 29-years ago on this day, the United Nations adopted a resolution for special people, declaring that World Individuals’ Day will be observed every year, after which the international community began celebrating World Day with full readiness.
The purpose of celebrating International Special People’s Day all over the world including Pakistan is to create awareness among the people and to take steps to make people with disabilities useful citizens of the country so that special people do not feel burdened and take full advantage of their abilities.
Events will be held around the world on the occasion of International Day of Special Persons, in which special persons will be invited as special guests and their various issues will be discussed and by highlighting different aspects of their lives, awareness will be promoted among the people.
It may be recalled that the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery was observed all over the world yesterday. Mankind has made unprecedented progress since the 20th century, but it has not been able to get rid of slavery in the 21st century. Millions of people around the world are victims of slavery.
In the old days, human beings were kept as slaves for a few coins, nobles or property. People imprisoned them, forced them to do whatever they wanted, and inflicted severe torture and corporal punishment as there was no one to ask the unjust masters.
