In a recent interview Indian rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh revealed his exploration of Islam and its profound impact on his spiritual journey.
Singh, renowned for his chart-topping hits like “Brown Rang” and “Desi Kalakaar,” discussed how his introduction to Islamic teachings during his early years in Punjab significantly shaped his understanding of faith. He recounted meeting religious scholars and Sufis in Mohali, where he learned about prominent figures of Islam and other religions.
Honey Singh reflected on his early experiences, stating, “Jab mein Punjab mein tha, meri introduction hui Islam se, tha mein tab bhi atheist. Kuch santo se mujhe Musa alaihis-salam, Prophet Mohammed Sallahualiwasalam in sabke baare mein pata chala… (When I was in Punjab, I was introduced to Islam, though I was an atheist at the time. Through some saints, I learned about Prophet Moses, and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).” He described the impact of these teachings and how they created a unique and contemplative atmosphere during his interactions with the saints.
Singh also addressed his career trajectory, noting that after achieving fame around 2011-2012, he strayed from his spiritual path and became involved with darker influences. “Mujhe tab upar waale ka shukrana adah karna chahiye tha. Uske bajaaye mein glorify karne laga, satanic powers ko… (I should have been grateful to the Almighty. Instead, I began glorifying satanic powers),” he confessed, acknowledging the negative effects this had on his life and career.
The interview has sparked significant attention, with many praising Singh for his respectful discussion of Islamic teachings. Social media reactions include comments such as “The way he mentioned prophets is amazing with respect” and “How respectfully he talks about Islam…! Bravo.”
