Tears and hugs abound as Israel freed 90 Palestinian prisoners and detainees early on Monday, hours after three Israeli hostages released from Hamas captivity in Gaza returned to Israel. The long-awaited ceasefire in the Gaza Strip took effect Sunday.

People react as a bus carrying released Palestinian prisoners from the Ofer Israeli military prison arrives in Ramallah, early 20 January 2025, amid a ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas. The ceasefire agreement brought an end to a 15-month-long war that devastated the Gaza Strip and heightened tensions across the Middle East.
