In Pictures: Celebs shine at 77th Cannes Films Festival

The 77th Cannes Film Festival kicked off on the French Riviera on Tuesday, showcasing 22 films competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or.

Hosted by French actress Camille Cottin, the opening ceremony featured a special appearance by American actress Meryl Streep, broadcast live in cinemas across France.

Among the highlights, Quentin Dupieux’s “Le Deuxieme Acte” made its world premiere outside the competition.

Notable entries include Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness” and Francis Ford Coppola’s epic science fiction drama “Megapolis,” competing for the top prize.

Asian filmmakers like Jia Zhang-Ke and Payal Kapadia also vie for honors.

Greta Gerwig, director of the acclaimed “Barbie,” leads this year’s jury.

Over the 12-day event, more than 35,000 attendees are expected to enjoy screenings and explore the Film Market.
