Around 1,400 individuals, including sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, have been booked under anti-terrorism charges following late-night unrest on Adiala Road.
According to police, the FIR was registered on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Imran Khan, in charge of the Adiala checkpost, and includes charges of attempted murder and resistance against law enforcement.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had called for a “peaceful protest” against restrictions on meetings with its founder.
However, authorities enforced Section 144 across the district, banning public gatherings for 15 days.
Despite heavy rain and restrictions in the twin cities, a large number of PTI leaders and supporters attempted to reach the jail but were stopped at multiple points.
Several political figures were named in the FIR, including Shahid Khattak, Meena Khan, Shafqat Awan and Shafee Jan.
Police alleged protesters resorted to stone-pelting, injuring nine personnel. Authorities said 41 suspects were detained but later escaped, while others fled. Thirteen vehicles were seized, with petrol, bottles and other materials recovered.
