ISLAMABAD: Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former Prime Minister Imran Khan was acquitted in two cases of May 9 violence.
The District and Sessions Court heard the bail application, where Judicial Magistrate Umar Shahab pronounced the judgment on May 9 in the two cases registered at Shahzad Town police station.
Imran Khan’s lawyers Mirza Asim Baig and Naeem Panjotha completed their arguments on the bail application, after which the court acquitted the PTI founder in both cases due to insufficient evidence.
The lawyer said that an unauthorized person filed the FIR and the PTI founder was charged under Section 109 but no evidence was produced.
Earlier, former Prime Minister Imran Khan filed an acquittal plea in the torture cases on May 9. PTI founder’s lawyer Naeem Panjutha appeared in the court and filed a plea for Imran Khan’s acquittal.
Judicial Magistrate Sahib Bilal inquired about the number of cases against the PTI founder and asked if challans were collected against Khan in these cases.
Panjotha told the court that Imran Khan’s Tosha Khana sentence is suspended, sentences in the illegal marriage case, and cipher case are still pending.
It should be noted that several cases including an illegal marriage case, and a cipher case are ongoing against founder PTI Imran Khan due to which his immediate release from jail is unlikely.
