Rawalpindi: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi have been indicted in the cipher case.
The indictment against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Shah Mehmood Qureshi was announced by the judge of the Special Court of Official Secrets Act, Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain on Wednesday.
Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi denied the conviction. This was the second time that the PTI leaders were indicted in the same case.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Special Prosecutors Shah Khawar and Zulfikar Abbas Naqvi appeared in the court. Imran Khan’s lawyer Usman Gul and Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s lawyer Barrister Taimur Malik appeared in the court.
After the indictment of the accused, the regular trial of the cipher case will begin in Adiala Jail.
Yesterday, Imran Khan’s lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar, alleged that there was no open trial in the cipher case, stating that the selected media had been called in, on which the judge of the special court said that he would look into the matter.
The petitions were discussed in the court yesterday after which the court fixed December 13 as the date for indictment.
The court disposed of six separate petitions related to copies of challan, notification, and media access.
