KARACHI: The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) has formed a committee to probe the alleged beating of a Karachi University’s teacher by students and guards.
As per details, IBA has termed the incident highly regrettable, saying it strongly condemns any misconduct against teachers by any member of society.
In a statement, the IBA said the matter had been forwarded to the IBA Committee for necessary action. The IBA has strict measures in place to discipline any misconduct and will not tolerate any act which would bring the IBA into disrepute, said the statement.
The IBA will work with Karachi University Teachers and will resolve the matter amicably and work towards the welfare of the teachers in the future, it added.
This incident occurred on Saturday evening when Assistant Professor Dr Mustafa Haider was leaving the university in his car and honked at a group of students blocking the way.
The students got enraged and hurled abuses at the professor. An argument broke out after which three students and a security guard of IBA slapped the teacher and tortured him.
On Monday morning, teachers and students of the University of Karachi gathered outside the front gates of the IBA and protested against the attack. The professor who was attacked was not present during the protest and was to be suffering from mental stress.
The teachers closed the university’s gates and cancelled all the classes in protest. They demanded that the management of IBA take action against the perpetrators and dismiss them. The protestors said action should be taken against the security guard and the students should not be allowed on the premises of the university.
