The drama serial ‘Mayi Ri’ has become the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons as its recent episode showcased a teenage pregnancy.
Since then, the makers of ‘Mayi Ri’ have been accused of glorifying child marriage. The criticism of the drama increased the lead characters who are shown as 14-15-year-old kids who became the victims of child marriage. The drama portrays underage pregnancy, which makes both Annie and Fakhir lead a new responsible life.
Now the drama director Meesam Naqvi addressed the emerging concerns during an interview with Fuchsia and cleared that he does not consider it as glorifying anything.
The director clarified that the drama is about a dysfunctional family where everyone has gotten married at a very early age, and the two main characters, Anee and Fakhir are both victims of child marriage and consoling each other, which is why he is not glorifying child marriage.
He also talked about the fact that people have a problem with young kids’ romance being shown on television. According to the director, there are 12-13 year olds in society who have affairs. “The society is knowingly closing its eyes just to not see what is happening,” he maintained.
