To promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions, the federal government has announced a major initiative to provide over 40,000 electric bikes and rickshaws to individuals at subsidized rates. This move is part of the country’s broader electric vehicle (EV) policy, which aims to encourage sustainable mobility and tackle air pollution.
The distribution includes 39,000 electric bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws, which will be available to the public at a concessional rate. In addition, the government plans to give electric motorcycles to the top 120 students of the Federal Board of Education, promoting the adoption of sustainable transportation among young people.
To support this push for eco-friendly transport, the government is also setting up 40 charging stations along major highways and motorways, with additional stations planned at petrol pumps for easier access to charging facilities.
The government’s electric vehicle policy, expected to be formally announced soon, aims to cut down on carbon emissions and promote cleaner, sustainable transportation options in the country.
