The Punjab government has unveiled an ambitious housing scheme aimed at bridging the housing gap for low-income residents, representing a significant stride towards social equity.
This endeavor involves the construction of an impressive 100,000 houses across the province, specifically catering to the pressing housing needs of underprivileged communities. Media reports indicate that the total cost of the apartments stands at Rs1.5 million only.
A recent high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz deliberated on the project’s progress. The Board of Revenue presented a list of 17 potential development sites for further assessment.
Acknowledging the urgency of the initiative, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz instructed officials to accelerate site selection in five major cities: Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Rawalpindi. Stressing on accessibility, she advocated for locations that offer convenience to residents, asserting, “A home is a fundamental necessity for every family.” This underscores the government’s dedication to realizing homeownership for low-income earners.
