Karachi experienced widespread rainfall today, as part of the ongoing monsoon spell, bringing relief from the recent heatwave and turning the weather pleasant despite high humidity.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the highest rainfall was recorded in Gulshan-e-Maymar at 23 mm, followed by Surjani Town with 22 mm and Saadi Town with 17 mm. Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Shahrah-e-Faisal also received 17 mm and 12 mm of rain, respectively, while University Road recorded 11 mm.
Other areas, such as North Karachi and Orangi Town, received 7.4 mm and 6.1 mm of rainfall. In the southern parts of the city, Defence Phase II recorded 7.8 mm, while Karachi South and Old City areas saw 9 mm each. Lighter rainfall was reported in Keamari (4.75 mm) and Karachi East (2.25 mm).
The PMD has forecast intermittent rain and thunderstorms to continue throughout the night, with chances of heavier downpours in southern areas. The rain also caused significant disruption to the city’s power supply, with over 350 K-Electric feeders tripping. The current monsoon system is expected to last until at least June 30, with more rainfall anticipated in the coming days.
