In a tragic incident that has left the community in shock, a teenager in Karachi took the life of his seven-year-old cousin, Abaan Mazhar, prompting questions about the motives and circumstances surrounding the horrifying act.
The suspect, identified as Sufyan, was apprehended by police in the Federal B Area of Karachi after confessing to the killing. What makes this case even more chilling is the revelation that Sufyan is a cousin of the victim.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central Zeeshan Siddiqui, Sufyan, aged between 14 and 15, resided with Abaan. The motive behind this heinous act seems to be rooted in complaints that Abaan would make to his father about Sufyan, resulting in the latter facing repeated reprimands.
In a statement given to the police, Sufyan admitted to his grave mistake. On the fateful day, he lured Abaan to a park through a back street, where he committed the gruesome act, ending the innocent child’s life in the bushes at Dhobi Ghat. Afterward, Sufyan cleaned the murder weapon, a knife, and returned it to the kitchen.
The police investigation is ongoing, and exclusive footage captures the haunting image of Sufyan leading Abaan through a back street while the young boy appears completely at ease.
SSP Central Zeeshan Siddiqui disclosed that two investigative teams are diligently working on this high-profile case. Despite identifying Sufyan as a suspect on the first day, the familial relationship complicated the immediate arrest.
The incident unfolded when the lifeless body of seven-year-old Abaan Mazhar, with a slit throat, was discovered in the bushes within the jurisdiction of the Yousuf Plaza police station near Cardio Hospital Federal B Area Block 16. SHO Shahid Rao reported that Madadgar-15 received a distress call about an injured boy found in the bushes around 3:30 pm.
A police team responded promptly, rushing Abaan to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses recalled finding the child alive but unable to speak. The family asserted having no enmity with anyone, and the post-mortem report indicated a sharp weapon caused the fatal injury, with no signs of abuse.
Samanabad DSP Asghar Mehdi stated that the child passed away on his way to the hospital, and efforts are underway to obtain CCTV footage for further investigation. A case has been registered, and the police continue to diligently pursue leads in this heart-wrenching case that has raised questions about how and why a teenager could commit such a gruesome act against his cousin.
