In the coming years, the temperature in Karachi is expected to rise significantly. The University of Maryland in the United States has made a dire prediction, warning of what lies ahead.
According to a report by ARY News, since 2015, Karachi has been setting new heat records every year, and it would not be wrong to say that the intensity of the heat has set the city ablaze. The unusual climatic changes have made the weather conditions alarming.
The report states that the University of Maryland in the United States has expressed concern that the temperature in Karachi could rise by 3.3% in the coming years. It is predicted that by the year 2080, temperatures in more than 4,000 cities around the world will increase by five to six degrees.
Alarmingly, several cities in Pakistan are included in this list, among them Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta, which gives an idea of the intensity of the heat in the coming years.
Researchers believe that Karachi’s summer is expected to be 18.2% drier, while the winter season is expected to be 5 degrees warmer with only a 0.4% chance of rainfall. Currently, Karachi’s weather is becoming similar to that of the Saudi city of Al Bahah, as indicated by the current heat.
Just a day ago, the temperature reached 40 degrees, and the heat intensity was felt to be more than 50 degrees. The night of July 17 was the second hottest night of the year after July 1.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department states that the average night temperature in July is 27.9 degrees, but the night of July 17 recorded a minimum temperature of 32 degrees, which is 4.1 degrees Celsius higher than normal, causing the heat to peak.”
