LAHORE: Hours before the Indian Foreign Minister scheduled to visit Pakistan for an SCO meeting, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his hope for the revival of Pakistan-India relations.
During an interview with Indian Journalist Barkha Dutt in Lahore on Monday, three-time PM Sharif stated, “I have always been a supporter of good relations with India. I hope there is an opportunity to revive relations.”
Nawaz Sharif, as the journalist reported, remarked that it would have been beneficial if Indian Prime Minister Modi had also attended the SCO meeting”, and expressed hope to sit with Narendra Modi in the not-too-distant future.
Indian Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar is scheduled to visit Islamabad to attend the meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on October 15 and 16.
Dutt claimed that Nawaz Sharif emphasized the need for improved relations between both neighboring states, stating, “I have always advocated for good ties with India.”
He remains optimistic that dialogue between the two nations will resume soon, reinforcing his long-standing desire for peaceful and cooperative relations.
