Maria was a 22-year-old girl who fell victim to an honor killing at the hands of her brother and father in Toba Tek Singh, a district in Punjab, Pakistan. She was suffocated to death on the night between March 17 and 18.
The case also has some complications as District Police Officer (DPO) Ibadat Nisar told the media that it was suspected that both alleged killers, her brother Faisal and father Abdul Sattar, had been molesting the deceased Maria, who had become pregnant, over which they planned her killing.
According to the police, the killing incident occurred on the night between March 17th and 18th. The body of the deceased Maria was exhumed on Thursday. After an autopsy, it was sent to the Punjab forensic lab.
Another brother of Maria, Faisal, made a video and informed the police about the incident. However, the police registered a murder case against the two brothers and their father on the complaint of Sadr Police Sub-inspector Ahmad Raza and arrested all three.
According to police after a report was received from the forensic lab, it would be confirmed how she was murdered and whether she was pregnant or not.
A sister-in-law of Faisal (his brother’s wife) disclosed during investigations that she was threatened by Faisal that if she told anyone about the incident, she and her children would be killed.
According to media reports, Maria was unmarried and a resident of Toba Chak 477 JB Allowal. However, there is no further personal information about her and her family on the internet.
