The Punjab government is working to launch a fast train between Lahore and Rawalpindi with a speed of 250km per hour.
Reports in local media said the proposal has been submitted to the Punjab Chief Minister for approval, with the project estimated to cost approximately Rs400 billion.
The proposed high-speed rail line is designed to enable trains to reach speeds of up to 250 km/h. This would significantly reduce travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi to under two hours, transforming the commuter experience between these two key cities.
The proposal outlines the need for an action plan that incorporates a pre-feasibility study conducted by the railway department, which will be funded by the Department of Planning and Development. However, one of the major challenges facing the project is securing the necessary upfront funding.
If the project gains approval, it will represent a significant advancement in modernizing Pakistan’s transportation infrastructure, providing residents with a fast and efficient travel option.
