The series, which was premiered on Netflix on May 1, became the most-viewed Indian series for the streamer globally. The series has been reigning in the No. 1 spot in the India Top 10 chart since its launch.
Starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditi Rao Hydari, the series is set in the 1900s, mainly between the partition of India and Pakistan, which showcases the story of the Heeramandi district of Lahore which is now in Pakistan, the milieu of the tawaifs (courtesan).
As with the geisha of Japan, courtesan were trained in music and dance and courted by the nobility. At the show’s center are Mallikajaan, the scheming queen of Heeramandi, and her vindictive niece Fareedan, who has ambitions to take her aunt’s place.
What will be the plot of season 2?
In ‘Heeramandi’ sequel, the women would come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs. The official release date of season 2 has not been announced yet.
