The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has issued a stern warning to students, parents, and educational stakeholders regarding the phasing out of two-year Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Arts (MA), and Master of Science (MSc) degree programs.
These programs, the HEC emphasized, do not meet the standards of the four-year bachelor’s degrees and Master of Science (MS) programs in terms of credit hours and relevance in the job market.
Since 2019, the HEC has been gradually discontinuing these two-year degree programs, with a final deadline extended to June 30, 2022. Despite this clear timeline, certain educational institutions have continued to admit students into these outdated programs.
As a consequence, the HEC has unequivocally stated that degrees issued from these programs after the specified deadline will not be recognized or attested by the commission. According to the HEC’s regulations, institutions offering these programs are no longer affiliated with the state educational system. Therefore, degrees obtained from such programs lack validity and recognition by Pakistan’s authoritative body for higher education.
The HEC has strongly advised prospective students, parents, and stakeholders against enrolling in these discontinued programs. They stress the critical importance of verifying the recognition status of educational institutions before seeking admission, as degrees from unrecognized programs can significantly impact students’ academic and professional futures.
For detailed information on colleges and institutions recognized by the HEC, stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official HEC website. This measure aims to safeguard the interests of students and ensure they pursue qualifications that align with national educational standards and enhance their career prospects.
