The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has postponed the implementation of its GRE/HAT test requirement policy for admissions to Level 7 and Level 8 academic programmes until 2027.
According to an official notification, the decision was taken after requests from universities seeking more time to prepare for the implementation of the policy.
The HEC announced that the requirement for GRE/HAT General and Subject Tests, which was earlier expected to take effect from 2026 admissions, will now be enforced from admissions starting in 2027.
Officials said the commission has also postponed the notification issued on May 13 regarding the implementation of the testing policy under the Education Testing Council.
The commission stated that the move was aimed at facilitating universities and ensuring that institutions are adequately prepared before the policy comes into force.
Under the revised plan, universities will be given additional time to make necessary academic and administrative arrangements before the GRE/HAT requirement becomes mandatory for admissions in advanced degree programs.
