A ban on pillion riding has been imposed in Karachi, on the 21st of Ramadan, in observance of the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (R.A), on Saturday, as reported by national media.
According to some reports, processions will be held in various cities across the country today on the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (R.A). In Karachi, the main procession will begin at 1 PM from Nishtar Park and will conclude at the Imambargah Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar.
Streets and roads along the procession route have been blocked using containers, and pillion riding on motorcycles has been banned in the city today. Mobile phone services have also been suspended in Quetta on the occasion of Hazrat Ali’s (RA) martyrdom day.
Islamic history tells us that Hazrat Ali (R.A), the fourth Caliph of Islam and the son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was martyred on the 21st of Ramadan in the year 661 CE. He was attacked by a Kharijite named Abdul Rahman Ibn Muljam while leading the Fajr prayer at the Great Mosque of Kufa.
The assassin struck Hazrat Ali (R.A) with a poisoned sword, inflicting a fatal wound on his head. After enduring immense pain for two days, he succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom. His martyrdom was a tragic moment in Islamic history, marking the loss of one of the most knowledgeable, just, and brave companions of the Prophet (PBUH).
