Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former minister Hammad Azhar made a significant announcement on Wednesday, revealing his withdrawal from the upcoming general elections.
The decision came during a session at the Supreme Court, where Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Jamal Mandukhel presided over the case concerning the rejection of Hammad Azhar’s nomination papers.
During the proceedings, the assistant counsel informed the court of Hammad Azhar’s decision not to pursue the appeal. Justice Mansoor raised queries regarding the High Court’s reference to Article 62 1F in its decision, emphasizing that the Supreme Court’s stance is clear: Article 62 1F does not automatically apply.
In response to the withdrawal of the appeal, Justice Mansoor pointed out that the PTI leader would not benefit from the decision. Justice Jamal expressed his observation that it appeared Hammad Azhar was not inclined to surrender.
Subsequently, Hammad’s lawyer formally withdrew the appeal from the court, and in line with this development, the former minister announced his withdrawal from the elections. Notably, Hammad Azhar, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, was contesting as an independent candidate from NA-129.
